For the theme choice 2 I decided to make a cup that had a more subtle contrast then before. I glazed the outside with white, and the handle in a dark green (shadow green?). I really liked the results. It really makes the cup, and the handle stand out separately. The dark, curved handle contrasts nicely with the round, white body of the cup.
This is a tall cylinder that coincides with my theme. It was dipped in mixed glazes and the outside is matte, while the inside is shiny. The outside is green-ish blue, and the inside in dark navy blue. I chose to keep it a simple cylinder, to contrast with the complex glaze. The glazes themselves also contrast with the inside being shiny, and the outside being matte.
These are my 2 wheel thrown plates. The first one is the smallest and is glazed in clear. It has a design on it, that is channeling a sun burst pattern. The clear glaze is very plain and contrasts with the bold design. The second plate is dipped in clear with an edge dipped in black. it almost looks like yin and yang, which is a largely known contrast.
These are my wheel thrown set of 3. The first project is half light blue and clear, and is small bowl. The next is a short vase, bowl like project and is glazed partially in clear and partially in green. The last was supposed to be a vase, but the lip broke off so i just smoothed it out on top. It is glazed in clear and orange. The glaze really brings them together because each is part clear, and part another color, and although the colors contrast, the clear glaze ties them together.
This is a wheel thrown cylinder with an altered top. It is glazed in light blue, light green, and dark blue. The top lip is altered and is pinched out from 4 different points. Knowing this I went for a distinct contrast, and glazed vertically in 3 different colors, which highlights the glazes and the lip of the project.
This is a thrown vase that I consider to be fairly tall. It is glazed in a highlighter yellow, with clear over the top, and the glaze ended up having a texture that resembles a spider web. It also has a small cutout at the top that you could rest a spoon in. The delicate, thin lined texture really contrasts with the loud yellow glaze.
This is another bowl I made for the soup kitchen. It is also a wheel thrown bowl, with a foot ring. I partially glazed it in matte teal, and partially glazed it in a shiny dark blue. The difference in the matte, and shiny glaze contrast each other, but still compliment the bowl. I also think that this bowl it a very good size and shape for soup. |
